BAHP Deputy Director, Giovanna Komst, Volunteers at Two Organizations for Diaper Need Awareness Week 2024

Cradles to Crayons

“Cradles to Crayons provides children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive – at home, at school and at play. We supply these items free of charge by engaging and connecting communities.”

On Thursday, September 26th, Giovanna worked with BAHP member company First Quality at Cradles to Crayons during their diaper distribution event. On the 26th, Cradles to Crayons helped provide just under a million diapers to Philadelphian families in need. During this time, BAHP was able to reflect on how our member company’s products can make a difference in the lives of women, children, and more.

Mitzvah Circle

“We provide ongoing assistance, referrals, and support. By individually assessing and building personal relationships, we remove barriers, eliminate bureaucracy, and invite people in crisis to contact us directly. After learning what people need to move forward, the Mitzvah Circle Foundation delivers and distributes care packages containing clothing, shoes, diapers, period supplies, books, household goods, toiletries, and more.”

“Mitzvah Circle was created to fill the gaps, to provide items that are not covered by government assistance. Clothing, toothpaste, diapers, and deodorant are items that people need every single day, but not all can afford to buy. We are here so parents can go to work and kids can go to school or daycare.”

With over 73,753 families served in 2023, Mitzvah Circle has donated 3,410,857 diapers and distributed 836,254 period supplies. On Friday, September 27th, BAHP worked with a member from The National Diaper Bank Network to pack care packages for families in the Philadelphia region. This process was unique because BAHP knew exactly which family they were helping with each package and could hear their story.
